Be Still...really?
Cleaning out soul-clutter God's way
Whelp, 2026 is starting out to be a real adventure. My word for the year is “Be Still” which is such warm blanket for my soul, and yet plunges me into the thought of “What’s next?!”. I’m praying for a peaceful year but from the looks of it so far, the Lord is going to give me plenty of opportunities to practice stillness while the sea billows roll.
God is in hot pursuit of my little black heart and exposing the junk that has been lurking in there like a squatter. Sheryl, please cooperate so the lesson doesn’t take longer than it needs to. He’s cleaning out my soul-clutter. Can you identify?
He turned the light on and dove right into piles of unforgiveness, opened closets dominated by the spirit of offense,(well, isn’t that pretty?) and unboxed bitterness that I didn’t even know was there.
In true God fashion He has been sending sermon series, songs & scriptures to get my ugly little heart to let go.
Thank you Jesus, I’m in process! Hallelujah, He doesn’t want me to stay the same. And sister, He doesn’t want you to stay in the same place either.
God uses the light of His Word and the tools of this earth to expose the darkness of our flesh-made-mess. (John 3:19-21, Luke 8:17, Ephesians 5:11-14, John 3:21, 1 John 1, John 8:12)
He doesn’t expose our hearts to condemn us, but to give us wisdom, clarity, and soul rest. (Romans 8:1, James 1:5, John 3:16-17)
Heart transformations are hard, but the process of knowing Jesus is enough is His beautiful gift of us.
Gift, you say? How could exposing my sin be a good gift? How could my digging out heart-junk benefit me?
God has a vested interest in seeing His children be made into the image of Christ. (2 Corinthians 3:18, Romans 8:29, 2 Corinthian 5:17, Ephesians 2:10)
It’s a gift that will cause us to transform our minds and be renewed. (Romans 12:2)
It’s a gift that lights our path so we can walk the road toward redemption, even if we still stumble. (Psalm 119:105)
It’s a gift that will set us free. (Galatians 5:1, Romans 8:1-2, 2 Corinthians 3:17)
We’ve given God millions of reasons to cast us away, and yet because we are in Christ, He draws us even closer and lavishes us with His presence. He is good at mopping up messes. (I love Psalm 40!)
The gift of His Holy Spirit works in places where we can only groan. (Romans 8)
If you feel the weight of the world on your shoulders and wonder if God is somehow wagging His finger at your darkened heart, there’s hope.
He is at work and His work is good. God can clean up hearts, homes, and nations with perfection.
Walk in the light in 2026 and be still, my soul. We trust in our God.
